We have various services that answer to the needs of each student for their studies and everyday life. We cooperate with the institutions concerned in and out of school, and we are also making efforts to help the students lead a fulfilling study life, constantly employing new approaches, while keeping in consideration, the study life of the students after completion of the preparatory education at the center.
We provide consultation services on various matters such as studying Japanese, communications issues with Japanese people as well as people from other countries, human relations, and advancing to higher education. Please feel free to consult us if you have any questions or concerns. The offices of consulting staff are located on the 5th floor of the center building.
Consultants for students and supporting staff, in cooperation with the office of the center have arranged to accept consultations via e-mail before entry to the center. We wish to help relieve the student’s anxieties and answer any questions for a stress-free arrival in Japan.
We hold an orientation session in the Students Consulting/Support Office, and provide students with assistance for a smooth start to their study life. We also provide information in the orientation of each course for each term when necessary. During the terms, we also hold a special class for the students studying under the Monbukagakusho Scholarships in order to deal with the issues related to their advancing to higher education, and management of their scholarship, issues that arise from the particular nature of the Monbukagakusho Scholarships Systems for undergraduate students.
As a part of the orientation before arrival in Japan, we send a Pre-Arrival Information Handbook to students reflecting the series of questions raised by the prospective students. We revise the information booklet (both in English and Japanese) every year. We also include various information regarding study and everyday life, as well information about the supporting body in and out of school.
We also provide news and e-mail services to the students under the Monbukagakusho Scholarships exclusively on a monthly basis.
In response to the diversification of the foreign students and change in the organizations, we have begun to provide consultation services in and out of the center. We give advice and intervention to prevent and solve conflicts involving communication at the center, as well as to promoting the support of foreign students through existing systems outside of the center.
We provide support through the classes which we consider to contribute to a fulfilling life both during the preparatory education period, and in the students’ future place of study.
With the cooperation with internal students’ bodies, we are making efforts to enable the students participate in cultural exchange with Japanese students when they are in preparatory education course. With the cooperation of the International Exchange Associations and public high schools in Hokkaido and Iwate Prefectures, we organize homestays and excursions during the summer holidays. Various activities are arranged every year by the accepting groups, and the reactions from participants has been positive.
We have been working on a database, and rebuilding the networks of graduates who studied at the center under the Monbukagakusho Scholarship. We established a working group at the center, and held a homecoming day to celebrate the 40th anniversary of JLCTUFS in March, 2011.
